CSR Skills-building at Lambeth College
Steps were proud to support Deloitte, one of our long-standing clients, on one of their CSR iniatives. Our client works collaboratively with Lambeth College, to provide valuable support to students of their Career Academy. The College had identified a need for students to improve their employability through personal impact skills development - and Steps were delighted when our client approached us to partner up.
The workshop was delivered in a Central London location and Steps team member Alexia Della Valle was joined by Steps Media expert Danny O'Neill and our vocal coach partner, Phil Bliss, to make up the delivery team. The workshop focused on how the students can present themselves in person and on camera, as they would shortly be creating a digital CV for future employers, interviewing for internships and giving a presentation about these experiences to their employers. The session explored the very specific skills needed to help with this task, including how to prepare for an interview or presentation, and how to remain confident and relaxed when under pressure.
The workshop was facilitated by Alexia, who brought to the session a valuable understanding of graduate recruitment and the communication and personal impact skills required when competing for employment. Phil Bliss, our vocal coach partner gave tips and feedback on how the students could use their voice, tone and body language to present themselves to potential employers. His insight was a valuable tool for the students - in understanding how their presentation style could then be adapted to suit a 'live' environment as well as when presenting on camera. Danny O'Neill then went on to assist the students in exploring the process of creating a digital CV and how to use the college's equipment to best effect. The students were particularly insightful and were engaged throughout the workshop - getting involved and sharing their creative ideas.
Carol Campbell, of Lambeth College came back to us with some fantastic feedback... "The session was excellent, not just from a student perspective, but from a staff perspective too. We loved the student engagement and energy and the motivation you and your team had with all of us. We hope we can get you back to the college at some stage!"
We were really delighted to work with our client on this programme and were pleased to contribute to Lambeth College's ongoing commitment to providing support and inspiration to their students.
